Welcome to "For The Love Of Wendy". This site is dedicated to my late fiancee, Wendy Larks. Wendy was taken from us July 31, 2001 after a long battle against breast cancer.
This site is named "For The Love Of Wendy" because it is the team name I chose for two groups of walkers who participated in the 2002 Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day walks in Chicago and New York City.
Wendy and I took part in the 3-Day walks in Chicago in 2000 and 2001 with various members of our families. Immediately after the 2001 3-Day, in June 2001, Wendy, my sister Susan and I registered for the 2002 3-Day events in Chicago and NYC. Three weeks later, Wendy died.
The reasons we chose to participate were not lessened, and Susan and I gathered friends and family in both cities to walk in 2002 "For The Love Of Wendy". Over the years that have passed, we have continued to participate in both the 3-Day and 2-Day walks in Chicago and across the country, in the hope that one day the walks will no longer be necessary.
Click on the button picture to the right for information about our "Cancer Sucks" buttons. Susan and I make these buttons to raise money for breast cancer. Proceeds from these buttons (more than 80%) are donated to breast cancer causes, primarily the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. |
